Abstract: From the late Famennian (UD IV, Hembergian, Platyclymenia annulata beds) of the northern Sauerland (Rhenish Massif, Germany) finds of phyllocarids are described and figured. The specimens (isolated carapaces and abdominal somites in natural connection) represent a new genus and species, Suttropcaris bottkei n. g.,  n. sp. The combination of particular morphological characters (e.g. large and smooth carapace, concave anterior and posterior margins, lack of a rostral plate, anterodorsal horn of carapace, convex ventral and dorsal margins, short abdominal segments, short pretelson, and short furcal rami; the last three characters regarded as autapomorphic) indicates that Suttropcaris n. g. lies outside both the Ceratiocarididae and the Rhinocarididae and may form the basis of a new taxonomic unit, the Suttropcarididae n. fam.

                    Suttropcaris bottkei n. g., n. sp. (Rekonstruktion)
